Reading the Bible Together

In Sunday school this fall, we will hear the stories of Genesis - of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph. These are crucial stories for children to learn as Christians, but also citizens of the world. Read these stories with your children, using your favorite Bible storybook or using the take-home sheets from Sunday school. IF you have missed Sunday school this fall, e-mail me and I will gather the take-home sheets for you. If your family needs a Bible storybook, I have two suggestions:

The Beginners’ Bible: Timeless Children’s Stories by Karyn Henley for very young children

The Children’s Bible in 365 Stories by Mary Batchelor

Both of these have been around for a few years, but are still my favorites for the illustrations and faithfulness to the Biblical text. I have copies you may look at in my office.

I’m listing the scripture references where you can find each of the stories:

  • Creation Genesis 1:1-25
  • Adam and Eve 1:26-2:4
  • Noah Genesis 6:5-8:22; 9:8-17
  • Abraham and Sarah Genesis 12:1-9
  • Isaac is Born Genesis 15:1-6; 18:1-15; 21:1-7
  • Jacob and Esau Genesis 25:19-34
  • Jacob’s ladder Genesis 27-28
