Sunday School for All

Have you thought about going to a Sunday school class yourself and just don’t know where to start? Beginning October 5th through November 2nd, Billy Cole will be leading a short-term study based on the book, Who is This Man? by John Ortberg. The group will meet in room 210 at 9:30. That gives you time to drop off the kids and head upstairs. Find out the impact Jesus has had on the world through the centuries and the impact he can have on you and your family – plus get to know other adults in the Aldersgate family. For more information, contact Jane at jane@aldersgate.org.

Reading the Bible Together

In Sunday school this fall, we will hear the stories of Genesis - of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph. These are crucial stories for children to learn as Christians, but also citizens of the world. Read these stories with your children, using your favorite Bible storybook or using the take-home sheets from Sunday school. IF you have missed Sunday school this fall, e-mail me and I will gather the take-home sheets for you. If your family needs a Bible storybook, I have two suggestions:

The Beginners’ Bible: Timeless Children’s Stories by Karyn Henley for very young children

The Children’s Bible in 365 Stories by Mary Batchelor

Both of these have been around for a few years, but are still my favorites for the illustrations and faithfulness to the Biblical text. I have copies you may look at in my office.

I’m listing the scripture references where you can find each of the stories:

  • Creation Genesis 1:1-25
  • Adam and Eve 1:26-2:4
  • Noah Genesis 6:5-8:22; 9:8-17
  • Abraham and Sarah Genesis 12:1-9
  • Isaac is Born Genesis 15:1-6; 18:1-15; 21:1-7
  • Jacob and Esau Genesis 25:19-34
  • Jacob’s ladder Genesis 27-28

It’s Fall!

In Sunday school this fall, we started at the very beginning with the creation story. Being in nature is one of the best ways to begin a conversation about God with children. Pointing out the incredible variety of plants, animals, planets, etc. can lead to simple thank you prayers. Get outside with your child this fall and discover God’s great earth. Here are just a few ideas:

1. Visit and apple orchard or farmers market.

2. Play in the leaves.

3. Plant bulbs for next spring.

4. Enjoy a hike together. Take advantage of living near the Eno.

5. Go to the pumpkin patch.
